Players for day 2 of the $250,000 Tournament final:
Eric Floyd; Calhoun, GA; student
Mark Dawson; Chamblee, GA; business manager
Brian Weikle; Minneapolis, MN; project manager
Mark starts the second half of the tournament final with $200 Let's Rock!. After several answers in the hole, all three players are pretty much level-pegging at the TV time out, with Mark at $800, Eric at $1600, and Brian at $1800. Brian finds the first Daily Double of the game under $800 Element Symbol Spelling. Quoth Brian, "This'll be my last time saying this, so let's make it a true Daily Double." Let's see if you can figure this one out: Tin, Actinium, Potassium. The answer is the on the tournament page at the bottom of this recap. Brian makes up for yesterday's dreary performance in the Jeopardy! round, taking the lead at $9600 to Eric's $2600 and Mark's $3800.
Eric starts Double Jeopardy! big with Art for $2000. A pair of Oshkoshes give Brian $4000, b'gosh, as a result of the Daily Double under $1200 Wisconsin Places. The second Daily Double, $1200 American Movie Idol, belongs to Mark, who must identify the American movie idol who had a starring role in the top-grossing movies of 1977, 1980, 1981, & 1983. After doing some figuring in his head, he stumbles onto Harrison Ford (the movies were "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and the original Star Wars trilogy), moving Mark to $14,000. Today's game is more spread out with Mark at $17,200, Eric at $6200, and Brian at $22,000. But it's the two-day total that counts.
Final Jeopardy! Category: Declaration of Independence Signers. Answer: On the list of the signers, 2 of the 3 last names that appear twice. Correct response: "Who are Morris, Lee, and Adams?" All three are right, so it will come down to the wagers and the final totals. And after computing the math in his head, Brian learns that he is $199 shy of the title of grand champion. That title goes to Mark Dawson, who wins with it, $250,000!
