Sugar Valley native to be on Jeopardy! Friday
By Karen Shaw
Sugar Valley native Eric Floyd received another opportunity to provide the questions to the answers on the popular television game show Jeopardy!. The 1993 graduate of Gordon Central High School will appear Friday on the Tournament of Champions segment.
While he can't under contract reveal the outcome of the previously recorded show, Floyd said he enjoyed his return visit with host Alex Trebek. "It was great to be able to go back on the show," Floyd said. "I had a really good time."
Floyd, son of Kathi Chastain and Darrell Floyd, both of Calhoun, earned his chance to appear in the Tournament of Champions after winning $99,800 last year on the show and becoming the third all-time highest money winner on the show. With a portion of his earnings, Floyd said he purchased a Mercedes and an English bulldog he named Briggsy.
The game show airs Monday through Friday on Atlanta's WXIA Channel 11 at 4:30 p.m. and Chattanooga's WTVC Channel 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Floyd is currently completing a degree in agriculture economics at the University of Georgia and has plans to apply for law school. He also plans to appear on other game shows. "I'll probably try to get on a few more game shows," he said. "It seems once you get on one game show, you don't have a hard time getting on another."
The Calhoun Times will follow Floyd's progress on the Tournament of Champions show and will update readers in next Wednesday's edition.
According to the official Web site of Jeopardy! the winner of the tournament will earn $250,000. The second place winner receives a minimum guarantee of $50,000 and the third place winner $25,000. The six players eliminated in the semi-finals will pocket $10,000 each, and the players eliminated in the first round will receive $5,000.
