Who Is.... Mark Dawson
Now a business manager for an architecture firm in Atlanta Georgia,
Mark was born in Bloomington, Indiana, raised in Alabama, Florida and
Georgia.
I loved the diversity of my experience growing up: exploring black-water swamps, traveling, snorkeling and learning to scuba dive, and roaming all over our nation's capital.
About Mark...
"On my dad's side, my roots are in Chilton County, Alabama, where my family goes back to the 1840's or so. My grandfather was mayor of the town of Jemison for some 26 years. My mom's ancestry goes back to New Amsterdam, more commonly known these days as New York City.
My brother and I in the Atlanta area, my sister in Paris, France, my mom near Chattanooga, Tennessee and my dad near Savannah, Georgia.
I moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University for two years, before moving
on to Georgia State University, where I earned a BS in Biology and an MBA
International Business. I am a member of Delta Sigma Pi national business
fraternity.
I discovered "College Bowl" at Emory and played for the academic team for
a couple of years. After a ten year hiatus from pursuits trivial, I joined a
reborn Georgia State University academic team (while I was working on my
business degree), and along with teammates like Chris Walker, Tim Buthod and Chris Hendry, played for four additional years, winning the Southeast Region College Bowl Tournament 3 of those years and finishing as high as 5th in the national tournament, in 1992.
Professionally, I have been a lab instructor and technician, high school
teacher, bartender, specialty foods marketing director, accountant,
laboratory supply manager, stock photography sales associate and for the
last two years, a business manager. My jobs have never settled into one particular career area; I'm more concerned with new challenges than with titles.
Though, I've replaced "saving the planet" with "being a good man among my common men" on my list of things to do, I still retain a sense of improving the world around me.
If reincarnated as an animal other than human, I would hope to be an otter: a master of his domain who retains his penchant for playfulness.
